Abstract:

Investigated the role of social support as a mediator between sensation seeking and psychological adjustment in older adults. Questionnaires assessing social support, sensation seeking, self-esteem, sense of coherence, and satisfaction with life were completed by 325 adults (aged 65-95 years). Path analysis demonstrated a correlation between sensation seeking and an extended social-support network as well as a mediating effect of that support on psychological adjustment. It is suggested that social support may be a protective factor with respect to psychological adjustment in older adult sensation seekers
