Abstract:
Studied the relationship between intelligence and performance in computer simulations that test problem-solving abilities. The MultiFlux simulation, which complies with test theory requirements, as well as a test of inductive reasoning from a German intelligence test battery (Berliner Intelligenzstruktur-Test, BIS) were completed by 101 high-school students (mean age 15 years). Simulation scores showed an internal consistency of alpha=.90 and above as well as a correlation with reasoning scores of r=.65. Structural-equation modeling indicated a better fit of the assumed three-factor performance model than of an alternative one-factor model. It is concluded that computer simulations can be designed to produce reliable performance measures. Further verification in other populations is recommended.
